EAA Taking Applications for the CT Energy Assistance Program (CEAP) and the Contingency Heating Assistance Program (CHAP): These government programs are designed to help offset the winter heating costs of eligible households. The goal is to assist eligible Connecticut residents with their fuel needs so that their health is not jeopardized by the inability to afford critical heat. If eligible, residents can get assistance for such heating sources as oil, natural gas, electricity, propane, kerosene, coal and wood. There are income and asset limits that apply. Proof of income and liquid assets are required at the time of application. Both homeowners and renters are encouraged to apply. Again this year, assistance has been expanded to provide relief for low income and moderate-income families through the Contingency Heating Assistance Program, also known as CHAP. This is good news for many residents whose income is too high to qualify for benefits through the regular Connecticut Energy Assistance Program. Please contact the EAA for more information or to schedule an appointment at 668-1986. More information on eligibility is available at http://www.ct.gov/dss/cwp/view.asp?a=2353&q=305188 James F. Coggins, Jr. Community Service Award: In memory of our late volunteer and Board Member, James F. Coggins, Jr., the EAA offers a $1,000 award to a graduating Suffield or West Suffield senior who demonstrates selflessness, generosity and concern for the community through their volunteer activities. Applicants are asked to send a 500-word essay supporting their selection to the EAA at 450 South Street, Suffield 06078 or email to Janetf@suffieldeaa.org. The deadline to apply is May 15th. Jane Purtill Fuller Scholarship: To recognize the many contributions of our past employee and long-time supporter of the Emergency Aid Association, the Board of Directors dedicated an annual needs-based scholarship in memory of Jane Purtill Fuller. This scholarship is awarded to a graduating Suffield high-school senior pursuing a nursing or social service field of study. Applicants wishing to apply are encouraged to fill out the common application at the Suffield High School or call the EAA at 668-1986. The deadline for applications is May 15, 2008. |

Identification of Vulnerable Residents for Emergency Preparedness Purposes: The Emergency Aid Association is working in cooperation with other Town agencies to identify Suffield residents who may be at risk in times of disaster, extreme weather conditions or extended power outages. If you, or someone you know, would benefit from a call, we want to hear from you. Persons appropriate for referral would include isolated seniors, persons relying on electricity for medical appliances, persons with speech or hearing problems or anyone with physical or mental health problems that limit their ability to access services. Names would be shared only with persons authorized under the Town’s Emergency Service Plan. Contact Pat Beeman, EAA Elder Outreach Coordinator, at 668-1986.
