or someone you know, would benefit from a call, we want to hear from you. Persons appropriate for referral would include isolated seniors, persons relying on electricity for medical appliances, persons with speech or hearing problems or anyone with physical or mental health challenges that limit their ability to access services. Names would be shared only with persons authorized under the Town’s Emergency Service Plan. Contact Pat Beeman, EAA Elder Outreach Coordinator, at 860-668-1986. EAA Taking Applications for the CT Energy Assistance Program (CEAP) and the Contingency Heating Assistance Program (CHAP): These government programs are designed to help offset the winter heating costs of eligible households. The goal is to assist eligible Connecticut residents with their fuel needs so that their health is not jeopardized by the inability to afford critical heat. If eligible, residents may be can able to get assistance for heat. Proof of income and liquid assets are required at the time of application for all household members. Both homeowners and renters are encouraged to apply. Please contact the EAA for more information or to schedule an appointment at 860-668-1986. More information on eligibility is available at http://www.ct.gov/staywarm Durable Medical Items Available for FREE Loan to Residents: The Emergency Aid Association has many medical items available for long and short-term loan to residents, including; wheelchairs, transport chairs, folding walkers, canes, commodes & shower seats. Emergency Aid Association Thanks the Community for its Holiday Generosity: The Emergency Aid Association wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all the individuals, families, schools and scouting organizations, churches, businesses and Town Departments that helped to make the 2011 Holiday Basket Program such a great success. Ninety--nine Suffield individuals and families, (comprised of 300 recipients of whom 146 were children,) had a more enjoyable holiday season because of the generosity of others. We could not provide this valuable service to our residents, struggling with health and financial challenges, were it not for the generous support of this very caring community. Bereavement Support Group: Masonicare Partners Home Health & Hospice is partnering with the EAA to offer an eight-session support group to persons who are grieving the loss of a loved one. The group will meet at the Masonicare/EAA building located at 450 South Street; Suffield on Friday morning’s beginning March 23rd and ending on May 26th. The program is offered at no cost and a light lunch will be provided. The Suffield Mini-Bus will be available to assist with transport, but residents must call and reserve in advance.
